Cardiomyopathy

cardiomyopathy treatmentCardiomyopathy (literally “heart muscle disease”) is the measurable deterioration for any reason of the ability of the myocardium (the heart muscle) to contract, usually leading to heart failure. Common symptoms include dyspnea (breathlessness) and peripheral edema (swelling of the legs). Those with cardiomyopathy are often at risk of dangerous forms of irregular heart rate and sudden cardiac death. The most common form of cardiomyopathy is dilated cardiomyopathy.Although the term “cardiomyopathy” could theoretically apply to almost any disease affecting the heart, it is usually reserved for “severe myocardial disease leading to heart failure”

Types

Genetic

  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM or HOCM)
  • Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC)
  • Isolated ventricular non-compaction
  • Mitochondrial myopathy

Mixed

  • Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM)
  • Restrictive cardiomyopathy (RCM)

Acquired

  • Peripartum cardiomyopathy
  • Takotsubo cardiomyopathy
  • Loeffler endocarditis

Signs and Symptoms

    Chest pain is common

  • in most cases the patients will be asymptomatic but in severe cases are associated with heart failure, arrhythmias and systemic embolization
  • ECG abnormalities are often present
  • An echocardiogram is useful to detect wall motion abnormalities or a pericardial effusion

Treatment in allopathy

Often recommended for peacemakers if heart rate is too low. (Costly)
Treatment with defibrillators for those prone to fatal heart rhythms (not a permanent solution)
ventricular assist devices (VADs) for severe heart failure (Costly)
All these treatments are for often symptom relief, and some patients may eventually require a heart transplant.

Treatment for Cardiomyopathy in Ayurveda

.

There is no effective treatment for this in allopathy. Heart transplantation is the only way out. With Ayurvedic treatments, we have been able to treat such patients and bring them back to their normal life. And so, Cardiomyopathy should not be feared about.
